Talk about a weird situation!
So, my dentist messed up my filling, so I needed it refilled. Unfortunately, my dentist went out of town for a few days. I didn't want to wait that long, so I went to another dentist in Hoover, AL.
I had never been there before, so I had to fill out paperwork. There was a section asking for my preferred name, and there was, of course, a place for pronouns. I marked the "Ms" pronoun box and listed my preferred name as 'Kira'.
They didn't care what I put on their paperwork. For the entire duration of my visit, they went to GREAT lengths to repeatedly call me "mister" and "sir". I stopped counting after 20!!
And they always used my male name. I can't always expect people to use my preferred name or pronouns, but they were deliberately trying to be rude. They made it very obvious.
Pronouns and names mean so much, and not only to Trans people. For example, if your preferred name and pronoun is "Mr. Smith" and I decide to constantly refer to you as "Mr. Asshole", you're probably going to be offended.
So why must so many people go out of their way just to be rude? I've never understood it. Anyone else ever had a problem like mine? I'd love to hear about it!
