Yesterday was absolutely devastating for me. I was too upset to even talk about it, so I'm posting this today.
I'm sure most people can relate to this experience, but for someone who is Genderfluid, it was far worse than it would be for most people.
And what am I talking about? A haircut.
Yeah, most people have had a bad haircut before. I understand that, but that doesn't change how upset I am about this.
So here's what happened. I started growing my hair out over a year ago. It was completely crazy looking, so I needed a haircut badly. I didn't want really long hair, but I certainly wanted it a little longer so I could style it both in a masculine way and a somewhat feminine way.
My hair was easily 6+ inches long if I brushed it out, but my hair is quite curly, so it didn't always appear that long, especially since I utilized my curls.
I told the person cutting my hair to "leave it long, but take off maybe 2 1/2 inches on the sides because I want my hair to stay long".
She cut and shaved and cut and shaved and cut some more. There is MAYBE 3/4 to 1/2 an inch left on the sides!! And those are the long places! There are several bald spots where she just butchered my head!
At one point I asked what she was doing!! Her response: "I'm just trying to get all these curls! They're everywhere!"
Are you serious?! I wanted it long and curly, and she practically shaved my head and removed all my curls!
I was devastated! I told her that wasn't what I wanted, and she responds by saying, "well, sorry I did the best I could".
My family was with me so we went to O'Charlie's afterwards. I don't wear hats to restaurants. Ever. But I was so upset that I wore a hat inside the restaurant!
I've had some bad haircuts before, but WHY would you practically shave someone's head when they VERY SPECIFICALLY said they wanted it long??
My hair grows SO slow. She took off a years worth of growth, so practically all I had!
There simply isn't a way to style this in a feminine way. This is absolutely an "ugly man's haircut" that will easily take 6-9 months to get even close to looking better.
If anyone knows of a place to for me to go next time that even remotely understands how to cut hair according to the clients desire, I would appreciate it so much.
Thanks for letting me rant a little. :-)
