Well, I want to say it was some time around mid-December 2015. I was headed to my therapist appointment and I needed gas. I was beyond nervous! I had never stopped anywhere as Kira before. I didn't know I needed gas when I left the house. I ended up stopping at the Murphy gas station beside Lowe's in Fultondale. The gas was only $1.39, so this was where I decided to go.
Now, I want to make this clear before I go any further. I do not blend-in at all! In fact, I still sport a bushy beard! But I was dressed to impress and I had a full face of makeup. You want to talk about nervous? That was me!
So I stopped and I only had cash on my, so I had to go inside the store to pay. I was the only customer, thankfully. The cashier was a young brunette girl; maybe 21 years old. When I walked in, she smiled at me, and being as nervous as I was, I thought she was about to laugh at me. I almost panicked!
I walked up to the counter and handed her the money, and as I reached out with the money in my hand, she reached out to grab it. But something unexpected happened. As she reached for the money, her hand cupped mine, and she said in a soft voice, "I'm proud of you for being so brave. You look beautiful." Then without a second to spare, she took my money and wished me a great day.
That totally made my day! Not a single thing was going to get me down! And it didn't! I got my gas and went about my day.
That was my first experience with someone outside of my house as a woman. And I just want to say: it felt good! I know all experiences are not like this, but when they happen, they make me smile!
What about you? How was your first positive experience in public?
